Dr. James Sanderson

James Sanderson
Dr. Sanderson is a proud Birmingham, Alabama native who married his high school sweetheart, Katrina. They have three wonderful daughters and three young grandsons. Inspired by his father—a member of the first graduating class of the UA School of Dentistry—and influenced by Dr. L.D. Pankey and Dr. Joe Volker, Dr. Sanderson followed a path to dentistry after studying at The University of Alabama, where he served on the athletic training staff for the 1978 National Championship team under Coach Bear Bryant.
He built a successful microscope-enhanced, laser-assisted comprehensive dental practice, averaging 12 new patients per month. Sleep dentistry became a major focus, and by retirement, he was the top referral source for the largest sleep physician practice in Birmingham. He credits coach Paula Hariss for much of his professional growth.
Following an early retirement due to essential tremor, Dr. Sanderson was invited by Steve Boggan, CEO of BioHorizons, to serve as a mentor—fulfilling a longtime personal goal. He went on to mentor with Implant Pathway, forging a close relationship with Dr. Justin Moody and staying at the forefront of digital dentistry. Over the past seven years, he’s traveled extensively, connecting with some of the greatest minds in the profession.
Now, with grandsons ages 7, 5, and 2, Dr. Sanderson is shifting his focus to family. He remains deeply connected to the dental community and is honored to join All-Star Dental Academy, looking forward to continuing his legacy in a new chapter.
