This is Dental All-Stars, where we bring you the best in dentistry on marketing, management, and training. Hello everyone, welcome to your weekly Motivational Moments with Eric Vickery, president of coaching at All-Star Dental Academy. The greatest leaders have this mindset, this heroes mindset. So great leaders are heroes. We’ve been talking a lot about being at both ends of the spectrum, it takes balance in your life. Can’t just be all in on one end.

00:31

This one, however, is a little bit different. The servant leader. This is a very popular term. It was coined by this author, oh, Greenleaf, Robert Greenleaf, and he wrote an excellent book on this, and we’ll talk about that. I’ll also say that the other side of that spectrum is being directive. People want to be, they wanna have clarity. So, excellent execution.

00:59

That’s the thing we’re trying to get to. So effective communication, expressing exactly what your expectations are, that will get people moving and going and directing them in the right direction. That’s purposeful. The servant leader also jumps in that direction. So when he talks about this, he really argued that the most effective leaders weren’t just these commanders though. They weren’t just these directors only, but they were on the humble side, which we’ve talked about.

01:29

and their purpose was to serve those beneath them. And I don’t mean that in an arrogant way or a cocky way, but just you have this hierarchy, which is important. The notion of a servant leader means that you’re beginning with this almost a natural feeling that you wanna serve others first. It’s a conscious choice. And we do this great with our patients. We do this.

01:58

phenomenally well with our patients. We struggle oftentimes with our peers as we lead each other. It could simply be, you know, all of a sudden one day you see the doctor in the kitchen doing the dishes. Now that’s not a regular occurrence and doing everybody’s dishes. Now everyone’s doing their own, but in this case, doing everyone’s dishes for some reason, or taking out the trash, or sweeping the halls. It is their business, it is their.

02:25

They have the ultimate ownership mentality in this. However, it’s meant to inspire. It’s meant for others to see it and go, wow, if that person could do that, I love working for them, and I could see myself doing more of that. Now let’s transition this to patience.

02:42

The customer version of this would be called servant selling. Now I know we, I don’t like that word selling just like anybody else does it, but let’s just get into it for a second. It really begins with the idea that people, us, that are moving patients towards health aren’t manipulators. We’re not manipulating them, we’re serving them. So when we serve non-selling sellers, when we do this,

03:12

We’re serving, we serve first, sell later. And if the person that you’re presenting to, that’s a better word, agrees to buy, will their life improve? Yes. So when your interaction is over with them, then your patient’s life is gonna be better. They’re gonna be in a better place than when you first met them.

03:38

That is a phenomenal way to lead as a servant leader because you’re serving the patient so much, they want to take care of this. So think about it this way, the cell will happen if we serve them with the information, the diagnosis. If we do the emotional exam, we serve them with the emotional exam, the cell will happen later. So if you want more of this type of training, please just reach out, eric at alls

Go to alls look at everything we have to offer. We have an amazing team that’s here to support you. Next up, we’re gonna transition into disc personality styles and understanding how each disc style works, and we’re gonna work through that weekly. But for this week, remember, focus on service. Where is your service, where’s your servitude going to show up the most? And also, have a healthy bit of directing. And for me, this is what I would do. It’s my vision that we do this. All right, guys, go out.

04:36

Make it a great week.
