00:00:09:23 – 00:00:31:00
Hi, friends. Welcome to our weekly Motivational moments. I’m Eric Vicary, president of coaching an all star dental academy. And this week, I want to talk to you about the law of the rubber band. And this is one of John Maxwell’s laws. He talks about that. I absolutely love you guys all know I love John Maxwell. I’m a John maxwell certified coach when it comes to leadership.
00:00:31:02 – 00:00:53:22
And what I would say is what coincides with that is what got you here will not get you there. And so to understand the law, the rubber band, you have to understand when when a rubber band is being useful, what is it doing? What’s happening to it? It’s being what? It’s being stretched. So growth only happens when you’re stretching.
00:00:54:00 – 00:01:18:11
That means you’re out of your comfort zone. John Maxwell says it like this True life begins at the end of your comfort zone and we arrive there by stretching. So if you’re comfortable, you’re not growing. Growth stops when you lose the tension between where you are and where you could be. Growth stops when you lose the tension between where you are and where you could be.
00:01:18:15 – 00:01:46:12
And so this starts to get into chaos, this term, chaos, you know, in dental offices and businesses and practices. And we say, well, it’s chaotic sometimes. If it’s not chaotic, if you’re not being stretched to get someplace, you’re not growing this just easy. And when we talk about if you’re going down here, you’re coasting. Growth only happens on an uphill climb and it never ends.
00:01:46:12 – 00:02:06:09
It’s an infinite game. It’s an infinite process. So that chaos is a wide, gray, fuzzy line. And now there is a cliff, there is an edge into burnout. You don’t want to be there, but in this gray line, you give feedback. You create accountability of communication with each other. You have influence and you’re healthy because you’re talking about it, but you’re stretching.
00:02:06:11 – 00:02:29:06
So we want to grow. We do not expect perfection, but we do pursue excellence. So that means every single day or week we’re looking at ways to grow. So I want you to share with a team member what is one way that you can grow this week? What’s something you want to do better? As an administrator, I was always challenging myself.
00:02:29:11 – 00:02:47:18
Can I can I just get one more new patient per day scheduled? Can I just, you know, figure out a way to help one more patient get healthy, get schedule, figure out their financial arrangements? You know, as a clinician, you might say, hey, I want to work on that communication skill that we’ve been working on, on our team meetings through coaching.
00:02:47:20 – 00:02:52:21
What is it that’s going to stretch you to get out of your comfort zone so that you get into growth?
00:02:52:21 – 00:03:10:17
