I notice this, I’m sure our patients can see it. Would you be willing to tackle that right now? And having the ability to lead so well, they go, oh my gosh, let me get that. She’s always the one that hangs up the Christmas decorations. She’s always the one that puts the birthday parties on. She’s always the one that does, always the one that does, always the one that does. And so what happens is she’s always the one that does. Does this making sense? Communication is missing to create the expectation that, hey, this is what we’re gonna do for birthdays now.
00:29
and having an announcement. This is what we’re gonna do for hallways and leading that and taking the hat off and putting the hat on where you say, I’m a leader in this moment. Is this making sense, guys? Say yes. Yes. Yes, all right, awesome. You wanna add anything to the heroes? Not to that one. Leaders I’m ready to go with leadership. All right, here we go. Five levels of Five levels of leadership. All right. So if you’ve read any of the Maxwell books, you may have been exposed to this and maybe some of you I’ve worked with this one-on-one, but.
00:58
It’s important to understand that leadership is influence. And so as we go to this slide, thank you, Eric, we have these different levels. And it’s important to know not just where you’re at personally, but where you’re at with each individual team member that you have. Know that the bottom level position, you’re the doctor, you’re the owner. You get that. You get that level just by checking the box and paying them a paycheck. You do nothing else.
01:27
You are the owner. So you’re automatically here. The challenge is climbing this particular pyramid and making sure Eric has spoken to relationships over and over. Building a relationship and knowing your team members allows you to influence them positively. Influence is happening. You’re influencing somebody every single time you do something. If you yawn, I’m probably going to yawn. Right?
01:53
Please don’t yawn. This is an exciting room, We don’t want yawn. We want to influence each other positively. If I’m positive, you’re more likely to be positive. If I’m negative, you’re more likely to be negative. If my neighbor does not mow the lawn, it influences my husband. He’s out there mowing the lawn going, getting mad because the neighbor’s lawn looks terrible. Can I add some of this real quickly? Yes, please.
02:20
I had a doctor tell me, I’m so tired of my team not paying attention during the team meetings, Eric. They’re not paying attention. I said, all right, I’m going to watch and see what’s happening. I get on the Zoom meeting. Guess what the doctor’s doing? On his phone. And I was like, you’re leading by example. You’re yawning. They’re yawning. You’re on your phone. They’re on your phone. You’re distracted. They’re distracted. You’re late. They’re late. Exactly. So that influence is extremely powerful. When you have a relationship, you can connect with your team member.
02:49
and know exactly what’s going on with them from a personal level. Not too much, but enough to be able to understand where they’re coming from. The next level is going to be results. You are good clinicians. Being able to prove that you can do what needs to happen, Eric mentioned sweeping the floor. You know how to do it, you’re doing it, but you’re going to end up empowering them. When you show that you’re OK doing something, you’re showing results.
03:17
People follow you because of what you’ve done for the practice. They know that you can do it too. As an office manager, we work through this as well as integrators. I don’t sit in an office and just say, you guys go do everything. I know how they need to do things. I have been on the floor, I have assisted, I have sat at the front desk, I know how to answer the phone myself. And you’re gonna jump in when someone’s out sick and you’re gonna lead by example. When you have an office manager or somebody who’s not
03:46
on the floor, if you want to call it that, they’re less likely to have the ability to get to this position level with their team. And are they willing to? Like if the greeter’s out sick, they’re going to go sit up front. If the treatment coordinator’s out, they’re going to go be the patient coordinator that day. Then we get to people development. Are you pouring into your team members? Are they allowing you to help them to be the best assistant, hygienist, administrative team member?
04:14
So reproduction, people follow you because of what you’ve done for them. Are you helping them to grow? And then we get to this amazing level where all of a sudden you have respect. They will do anything for you because you’ve done all of the things to help empower them. So this is the ladder or the pyramid of influence by John Maxwell. People follow you because of who you are as a person. You’ve got a relationship. You’ve done the results. You’ve poured into them.
04:44
and now they’re going to follow you. You’re leading them. You know you’re at this level at the very top when team members just drop resumes off in your office that work other places. Because they’ve heard so many great things about you, they can’t wait for you to have an opening to come work for you. That’s when you know you’re at that level, because the word on the street is, this is the place to work.
